My Life as an Artist Part II
Part I of my life as an artist quite literally started at my Grandmother’s knee. Georgia Hermann, my paternal grandmother often spent summers with us after my grandfather died. Of the many things I remember from the time she spent with us, it was her quiet time that is most memorable. It was then that she would take out the black and white photos she took with her brownie camera --- and proceed to translate the scene in the photograph. What evolved was often not what was in the actual photograph. It was her interpretation of the scene that emerged on her canvas. That was when I learned that what I see as an artist is the landscape of my mind, comprised of those thoughts that are indescribable within any other medium.
Part II of my life as an artist is about infinite possibilities. Color, texture, light, and dark – all combine to take me to a distant place of uncompromising joy as I work, develop, redevelop and give vision to the end result. Very often when people see my work it evokes a memory or memories, and each response is as different as the viewers themselves.
I am an educator by vocation, and am as passionate about this work as I am about my art. In fact, educating children evokes the same feeling as my art . . . it’s all about possibilities, and there are none that cannot be achieved if you have the drive, the desire, and the fire. The possibilities are endless.
Thank you for taking time to look --- I hope you can see possibilities as you review My Life as an Artist.
