Mary Procter, a Washington, DC resident, grew up with an art teacher mother and a grandmother who became an avid painter in her eighties, but only began painting seriously herself after her retirement from a second career as a charter school founding administrator. Her paintings have been accepted into juried exhibits at the Yellow Barn Gallery in Glen Echo, Maryland, Art on the Mountain in Southern Vermont, and at the Capitol Hill Art League Gallery. Jointly with her husband and fellow painter Bill Matuszeski, she has had exhibits of her acrylic and watercolor paintings at the Yellow Barn Gallery in Glen Echo, Maryland, at the H Street Theater, and the RESULTS Gym Gallery in Washington, DC. Earlier she collaborated with her husband on a book of photographs of smaller industrial cities of the Northeast, called Gritty Cities. She has also designed, painted and built sets for local Washington, DC community theater. She studies plein air painting with Walt Bartman at the Yellow Barn Gallery, and has painted landscapes in Vermont, California, the Washington, DC area, and in the Greek Islands and other European locations.
