I paint as a celebration of the joy in the “now”. My works speak in color and light, in contrast and values, all symbols perhaps more accurate and effective than words. Painting for me is a spiritual connection to my surrounding world where I see the life in objects, people, earth, and the atmosphere as I try to capture their essence in my paintings. I often feel great joy in the quiet peace that envelopes both me and my painting as I work depicting a scene.
I feel a connection and a joining with the scene I try to capture that comes close to the feeling of true intimacy for me. I can feel color and light as they joyfully interplay in my sight and in my heart giving me a sense of agelessness and timelessness that inspires me. Each painting I create is my experience of a new joy and a new passion that fills me with peace. Thus my paintings become lessons in expressing my love of life over and over again.
I have been touched and inspired by stained glass and the works of my artist father all throughout my life. This inspiration is reflected in my early drawings and photographs which also motivated me to earn a BFA from the Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2002 I began my association with the Yellow Barn Studio and my exploration of various painting techniques with Walt Bartman. Currently, I travel with other painters to picturesque sites and delight in capturing the essence of the places I visit. Recently, I joined the Montgomery County Artist Association and have won 3 awards, 1st, 3rd, and Honorable Mention.
