Artist's Statement

A native of Virginia, Lida Stifel lives and works in Bethesda, Maryland. Her solo exhibitions include The Artists Museum, the American Institute of Architects, The Susan Conway Gallery, and The Kristin Johnson Gallery in Washington, D.C. Her work has been included in numerous group exhibitions and private collections nationally.

Ms. Stifel attended Hollins College and Ohio Weslayan University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history and painting. She continued her education at the Corcoron School of Art in Washington, D.C., where she studied with William Christenberry.

A perceptual realist, Stifel's paintings range from landscape to the human figure to abstraction. Her paintings are generated by things that she responds to in nature and are conceived with a strong emphasis on light and shadow.
